How it works
One click from the Chrome Web Store. No sign-up, no permissions beyond what's needed.
Navigate to YouTube, Netflix, any site with a video element. SpeedLens works anywhere.
Click the extension icon in your toolbar and move the slider. The video responds instantly.
From the developer
On YouTube, getting to speed controls takes two or three clicks — open the player menu, find settings, find speed. Most sites give you a handful of fixed presets: 0.5, 1.0, 1.5, 2.0. That's it. No in-between.
But sometimes 1.5× was too slow and 2.0× was too fast — and 1.6× would've been perfect. There was no way to get there. You'd just pick the lesser-of-two-evils and deal with it.
The real trigger was long-form technical content. There are hours and hours of genuinely great tutorials out there — coding walkthroughs, AI deep-dives, system design lectures. The approach that works best is to skim through at a faster pace first, absorb the concepts, get the shape of the thing — then go back and slow down for the parts that actually matter to you.
That workflow needs precise speed control. Not presets. Not a clunky menu. Just a slider, right there, that does exactly what you tell it. So I built it.
Privacy Policy
SpeedLens does not collect, transmit, or store any data about you, your browsing, or your usage. We have no servers that receive data from users.
The extension uses no cookies, no local storage, and no browser databases. Every session starts clean. Nothing is remembered between tabs or windows.
We do not use analytics, telemetry, crash reporting, or any third-party tracking tools. Your activity is yours alone — we have no visibility into it.
SpeedLens requests only activeTab and scripting — the minimum needed to set playback rate on the page you're viewing.
These privacy principles are not subject to change. SpeedLens was built with privacy as a core architectural decision — not an afterthought. The extension is intentionally designed to have no backend, no analytics pipeline, and no mechanism to collect user data. This is a guarantee, not a policy that can be updated with a blog post. We will never track, sell, or share any information about our users.
